The Editing Makes No Sense
21 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Like others have said, the editing makes no sense; there's no character buildup.

I know sign language and been using it for over 33 plus years and I'm married to a Deaf man for 32 of those years.

I really don't like to watch shows with one Deaf character who signs and hearing actors who have to learn sign for the movie, because their signing is usually awful and it hurts my brain. Enrollment did their best though. Press not ready to sign, talk, and act, too. So kudos to the actors.

Only Henry's and Bobbie's signing and the actress playing her mom eye really passable. That actress may be Deaf in real life. But everyone made an effort and producing signs isn't easy for novices.

I don't know the backstory of this Marvel character. It would have been so much better to take two-three episodes to show us a relationship with her dad and then the one with Kingpin and their criminal doings and how she was groomed to be one herself.

We get a little bit that shows us that it might have been in her character to be the way she is, as she kicked the man Kingpin beat up and she deliberately shot a bird and lied about it. Okay, so she's a little bit of a budding sociopath who doesn't mind being groomed to be a criminal.

Not a character I particularly liked. We didn't get any kind of deep relationship with Dad and she barely reacted to his death and his dealings in the underworld were barely shown.

Then suddenly there is this guy called Kingpin whom she supposedly had a close relationship with, but that was barely shown and we really don't know exactly what's going on, at least in my case. I didn't even understand the reason for the first fight. Was it because she was told Kingpin killed her dad?

We only got hints of what dad was about and I don't recall seeing him interacting with Kingpin so everything seemed from leftfield.

My husband was very excited to see a Deaf signing character and seemed to enjoy it. We binged all 5 episodes in one afternoon.

If ever there was a series that should have been 8-10 episodes to flesh out the backstory, this was it.

There's a hint for a 2nd season. I hope the producers are reading the comments and plan give to us more backstory since they have no problem with (unfulfilling) flashbacks, so next season we feel like we are watching something coherent with motives for what the characters are doing, instead of cardboard characters moving around randomly. We need better fight scenes and show is how she uses her other senses to be able to fight several say once. I just couldn't get a handle on why the character even exists.

The audience and actors deserve better.
