Warning: Spoilers
Charlie chopra and the mystery of solang valley is a mystery show directed by vishal bhardwaj.

Wamiqa gabbi seemed lukewarm in the beginning, having some issue with the style of the series, but with time, she went one notch up and in the 4th and 5th episodes, when she goes through a personal breakdown, thats when she comes into her own. A superlative performance from gabbi, completely outperforming her contemporaries. This is also because no other character had the sufficient depth to do anything substantial. We get footnotes of their lives, but never know about them. Gulshan grover, neena gupta, pulkit makol, priyanshu painyuli and the rest of the cast is great, but as I said, no layers in their characters. Also, what this does is, keeps you away from investing in its storyline in the first half of the series. From the 4th episode, it does hook you in, not becuase of interesting characters but because the plot has got thicker, betrayals are impending and deaths are imminent. So, I am a bit disappointed by the writing.

The series is shot well, bhardwaj's stories have always used the snow and cold hill stations nicely, this is also an addition. The shots are steady and also frantic as required. The supernatural angle of the series was just wasted, i wonder what dimension would that angle give to this series. The background score is terrific, the quintessential bhardwaj score, never abiding by the rules. He uses tabla, rhythmic beats to convey the horror of the surroundings. What a legend. Also, the ghazals in rekha bhardwaj's voice are pure goldstuff. She never disappoints.

The series has a wicked humour infused in its screenplay, which works in most of the scenes. In one scene, a characters kills a man with the flesh part of the tabla, thats how the comedy is in this series. Its not slapstick, its a very moody and patient humour. The dialogues are good. The approach of charlie breaking the 4th wall and talking to us is great, she makes sly remarks, gives character excerpts and also slurs in punjabi. I would love to see more of her.
