Kill List (2011)
6/10
Good film - terrible ending
12 August 2023
2011 Brit-thriller "Kill List" coulda / shoulda been excellent, rivalling "Midsommer" & "The Wicker Man", especially with Ben Wheatley's dark direction and its fine performances (esp Neil Maskell)... but Wheatley & co-writer Amy Jump's abrupt, shock-value ending utterly spoils it, wasting all the fine build up. With money troubles causing issues in his marriage to MyAnna Buring, Maskell goes back into the assasin business with old army pal Michael Smiley, taking on a three man hit that has more to it than it seems... featuring a vicar, the occult and an apparent descent into madness. All great, moody, stylish fare... and then THAT ending ruins it. Disappointing.
