Bed Rest (2022)
7/10
Not a bad Horror movie but it's not as good as the Scream films
25 July 2023
The plot of Bed Rest is how after a terrible injury happens to young pregnant mother named, Julie Rivers who is portrayed by Melissa Barrera, she is ordered to stay in her bed throughout the rest of the duration of her pregnancy, and that's when a lot of creepy and unexpected events start to occur, as her husband, Daniel, goes about his days. There's quite a bit of good acting in the movie, and I do think that if people watch this horror film and just focus on what this movie is trying to do and they don't compare Melissa's performance in this movie to her performance as Sammantha Carpenter in Scream 5 and Scream 6, then they will enjoy this film. It's kind of slow in the very beginning, and it does take some time for the creepy and scary events to come into play in this movie. The reason why I can't give this movie a full 8 stars, which is the most that this horror film should get and not any higher, unless you watched this movie when you were drunk or high, is because of the pacing. In other horror films like Halloween and Scream for an example, there's something horrifying that happens right away and it hooks the viewer into the story. Here we have about a half hour of talking and socializing before anything remotely scary happens, and when the scares do happen they are more creepy and are very mild. I found this film very intense, but I didn't find it particularly scary. Since Melissa Barrera is the main star of the movie I thought that this was going to be a very good one. It's an okay horror film and it should entertain horror fans who are willing to sit through the half an hour of what feels more like a drama film that was made for the Lifetime movie network. The casting wasn't terrible, it was decent and it did have people who I was unfamiliar with who did a very good job acting wise. The editing wasn't to good, I felt like the director should've had the editor cut down the talking scenes in the beginning of the film to about fifteen minutes. When Julie is on bed rest after her accident, which I won't tell the readers what it is, so they can see for themselves, she wears a nightgown that reminded me of the type of clothing that would've been more suitable for the 1920s-1930s time period. The cinematography was decent and it did look professionally made, not a cheap film student project. I did like the directing, but the script for the actual movie could've been better, it wasn't awful, I have watched movies that are terrible and poorly done, mostly because of screenwriters and sometimes directors who don't want to put any effort into telling a great story, in any genre, and the script for Bed Rest isn't a terrible one, the only problem I have with the script is the pacing that it set, and that's all. I only recommend Bed Rest for Horror Buffs and Horror Fans who are able to really pack their patience and who are able to handle the fact that this movie doesn't have any kind of a hook in the beginning.
