Ethiopia ain't the big apple, but even there, Shaft's the man.

Warning: Spoilers
They needed to do something other than rinsing and repeating, so for the third and last entry of the original series, Richard Roundtree heads to Africa after being cajoled through much manipulation (where he is stark naked) to aide in the dissolvemement of a slavery ring run by French millionaire criminal Frank Finlay who holds no value to life he can't get profit out of. So you have an urbane, hissable villain, and John Shaft once again gets a gorgeous love interest in Vonette McKee who is an African princess. He even gets a scene where he makes love in a crow's nest while a dog yowls outside. Surprisingly, the rickety structure made out of straw and bamboo remains standing without shaking!

The funniest bit is the nude Roundtree waking up in a barn with a horse's behind staring him in the face. There'd Finlay's younger white mistress who demands a night with Roundtree, even threatening her bodyguard with a rape accusation if he doesn't arrange it. With a stronger sexuality and an even more violent atmosphere (Roundtree kills several people in indiscriminatory ways), this is definitely the roughest of the films to watch, and yet has some moments that are extreme difficult to believe. So while certainly enjoyable in the most part, it's a far from perfect film, perhaps showing how unnecessary any followup was, and that bringing the series back decades later wasn't all that great an idea.
