With all the unnecessary remakes that we have, Malum is the king. 8 years later, same director, same nationality, and overall worse on every aspect. Just why?
Last Shift(2014) is a solid horror, very creepy overall. Malum tries to "ramp up" and just comes as cringe and laughable. All the dialogues are bad, the building of suspense is non existant, the acting is terrible, there is not a single saving grace on this.
The movie starts with scenes of a cult, the shaky camera and flashing images are very badly edited. Then it goes to show the captain that saved 3 women from the cult, and what happens later is very quick and has 0 build up. You just watch it and go "eh, whatever" because there is no connection with anyone on screen, apart from some cringy lines. The whole movie is like that, a badly edited mess with cringy lines and 0 build up to the horror.
As it is true for 99% of remakes, just watch the original.
