A Guy Ritchie film with that much heart?

A Jake Gyllenhal movie where he was outshone by somebody else?

A war feature that isn't exactly what it calls it to be?

I'm indeed surprised, but I'm saying that as a compliment.

Returning to the film, it is a well-written, well-acted action drama that capitalises on human emotions and delineates the shades of humanity that could survive regardless of unfavourable situations. Despite being classified as a war movie, the plot of this movie tends to depict events that defy expectations.

The script manages to strike a balance between action sequences and character development, making it a compelling watch for fans of both action and anecdotes. In addition, it emphasises the impact that warfare has on civilian populations and the role that empathy plays during such conflict periods.

The narrative sincerely commemorates the bravery and valour of all the natives who fought alongside the soldiers, risking their lives, their families, and everything they owned in order to be on the right side and fight evil! This film honours them and their sacrifices more than the government ever has or will. And I respect that! Not so much the character development here, as the flaws were quite notable.

Other segments were thankfully well handled; there was a sufficient amount of blood, gunfights, explosions, and all the usual stuff, along with Guy Ritchie's signature style of suspense and, most importantly, two standout performances. Jake Gyllenhaal and Dar Salim played their respective roles with utmost conviction. Specifically, the latter; he was incredible.
