Doesn't end the trilogy on a high, but its okay
12 April 2023
'Maniac Cop 3' is the third and final instalment of the 'Maniac Cop' series and while it doesn't compare to the first 2 entries in the series, its still an entertaining watch thanks to some well executed action sequences, fantastic stunt work and plenty of violent set pieces. But despite those positive aspects there's quite a few problems with this flick such as the bland plot and the tedious pacing which really bogs things down which makes this on the whole feel rather forgettable outside of a few fun moments.

The plot = A female cop named Kate Sullivan (Gretchen Becker) is gunned down during a robbery and is wrongly accused of using excessive force. The only one that can help her is Lt. Sean McKinney (Robert Davi) as he attempts to uncover the conspiracy surrounding the situation. At the same time the maniac cop himself Cordell (Robert Z'Dar) is back from the dead seeking revenge.

The production problems on this have been well stated with returning director William Lustig losing control over the final product and unfortunately all of this shows as a large chunk of this film feels rather stale with heavy padded scenes and the choppy editing which gives everything a rather disjointed feel. However, that being said the movie is still quite decent with just enough to keep you entertained, even if it does feel like a comedown after the awesome first 2 movies.

The performances in this are good Robert Z'Dar is once again fantastic in his final outing as the titular Maniac Cop and provides real menace with his usual style. Robert Davi is fine as the stern-faced detective but feels very underused and Jackie Earle Haley provides a colourful and memorable performance as the drug addicted psychopath in one of his earlier roles.

Overall 'Maniac Cop 3: Badge of Silence' is fine, just fine, but doesn't end the trilogy with an almighty bang like it should have.
