The Drop (I) (2022)

The Drop (2022) is a movie that my wife and I recently watched together on Hulu. The storyline follows a "happily married couple" who upon arriving at a destination wedding accidentally drops one of the guest's babies. As the couple are around the other couples during various wedding activities, they determine they aren't so happy; maybe happier than the other couples, but not where they need to be.

This movie is directed by Sarah Adina Smith (The Midnight Swim) and stars Jermaine Fowler (Coming to America 2), Anna Konkle (Rosewood), Robin Thede (Insecure), Jennifer Lafleur (Nope), Elisha Henig (The Sinner), Utkarsh Ambudkar (Free Guy) and Joshua Leonard (Blair Witch Project).

The storyline for this had some potential but the comedic content was inconsistent. The diversity of the characters and the relationship dynamics were unique and well displayed. The dialogue and soundtrack at times is painful as is some of the comedic scenarios which were stale and painful to watch. There are some good chuckles, and the cast delivers excellent performances, but the writing was very up and down. This movie doesn't take itself seriously at all and wasn't very realistic. It is shot well and I was impressed with the cinematography.

Overall, this was a good concept that falls short of its potential due to inconsistent writing. I would score this a 4/10 and only recommend if nothing better is on.
