Demanding, bold, innovative, if not wholly successful
9 December 2022
Nicolas Roeg, one of the most idiosyncratic directors, employs an innovative stream-of-consciousness narrative structure in "Bad Timing", alternating between time periods at will: this film demands full attention from anyone who wants to follow it. The story itself is not that compelling, until the final section, when it gets quite disturbing; the film is also a bit overlong. But I do have to single out Theresa Russell: while she might not have the most consistent career, when the role is right for her, as it is for example here or in "Black Widow" (1987), she is (and looks) sensational. *** out of 4.
