5/10
The film is like a two hour version of the French and Saunders parody of "House of Elliot", which they called "House of Idiot".

Warning: Spoilers
The scriptwriting is like painting by numbers. All scenes are very short with actors saying two lines and then leaving. There's no depth at all. Any attempt is woefully shallow. The Earl hears a rumour that he may be illegitimate and worries about that the entire movie until his mother says that no, he isn't illegitimate. End of worry. The countess "looks tired" and may have a fatal illness until the doctor says no, it's not cancer, she's all right. End of worry. The servants love being servants. The clothes are dull. The story is predictable. Why has this series become so popular? It's not great filmmaking or good scriptwriting.
