A host who goes by the name "Rainbow Randolph" (Williams) hosts the number 1 kids show of all time, but is caught pulling shady business deals on the side while lining his own pockets (who'd have thought that might happen?). Shamed, disgraced, and fired from all forms of entertainment, Rainbow Randolph is the new social pariah. So, obviously the network executives tell the shows producers to find a replacement to fill the kids show time slot. Someone who is as clean as a whistle, and won't cause problems,, or, rather (in the words of the boss exec) they need to find someone who is "squeaky, friggin', clean!!"
Enter Sheldon Mopps,, a.k.a., Smoochy the Rhino. A heart of gold, practices what he preachs, children's entertainer who is as much of a boy scout as any man could be. Completely squeaky clean! Not to mention, slightly naive about the world,, or rather, business of children's entertainment.
(Basically,, Sheldon is in it for the kids/people. Most everyone else is in it for the MONEY, (shock/horror/etc!!!) and they're not willing to let a boy scout get in the way of getting said money)
So, Smoochy the Rhino becomes the new face of children's entertainment, and becomes not only the star, but an executive producer on his show. So he has full control over all the details. Will Sheldon change the world,, or will the money grabbing fiends (and certain former children's entertainer who's cracking at the seams) take him down?
Can't believe this came out 20 yrs ago!! I was in college then, and everyone loved this movie.
Edward Norton and Robin Williams lead an incredible, comedic cast in the Danny Devito directed comedy gem. It's a 7.2 rating at least!
