At first I thought this was a great show, but as a history professor I have reconsidered. Problems:
1. 1883 is a decade late. Most people had already travelled West. Almost all the tribes (Comanche, Lakota) had long been defeated and forced onto reservations.
2. No character development. Most of the characters (every German & Romani, even Thomas) don't even have last names! The anonymous Germans are only in the show to get killed in horrible ways for entertainment purposes. How are Shea (way too old) & Thomas (African-American) Pinkertons? And what do they do as Pinkertons? They are never given an assignment or paid. Where does Shea get all of his money?
3. The Duttons are supposedly destitute yet they have tons of money to throw around ($28 or 2 months pay to have someone babysit their wagon & horses for ONE night?). And why did they wait 18 years after the Civil War to start West if they were broke?
4. Geography. Why would anyone travel from Tennessee to Montana thru Texas? That's hundreds of miles the wrong way.
5. The Comanches were notorious as brigands and slavers, yet the show portrays as kindly & helpful to whites. Wrong!
