A film hard to rate because story wise it is simply dull scenes leading up to the main character Doctor Allan Barnes putting on the mask but when he does the film takes off and becomes wonderfully weird and quite compelling. The mask sequences were designed by Slavko Vorkapich and are the best things about the film. The cast do their best but are only there to fill the narrative until the next trippy vision though I did like Claudette Nevins as Pam. She was rather cute. The mask itself is rather creepy. Shame the film wasn't made in colour.
Am not sure what Doctor Barnes was trying to prove wearing the mask. There was vague talk about expanding the efficacy of psychiatry but it never seemed to make sense. Recommended, but only if you have patience.
