O'Brien to Ryan to Goldberg

I never was and never will be a fan of sports or sports movies but this one I could not have missed out under any circumstances and here are two reasons why: Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly. Oh boy I could watch them sing, dance and act for eternity. They did three movies together and this one is the most underrated in my opinion.

"Take me out to the ball game" is based on the story written by Kelly and Stanley Donen who were rumored to be its directors behind Busby Berkeley, the man who got the actual credit for directing the picture. The plot revolves around two baseball players who are also great vaudeville performers and both are fallen in love with the same woman: the one unintentionally, without realizing it, the other just confused but this fact doesn't affect their friendship. True friends stay friends always, even when they're mad at each other, even if they act foolishly, even if someone is hurt - friends will understand, forgive and support one another.

What's there to say about songs and dance numbers in a Sinatra/Kelly movie besides them being perfect in every way? I guess I've already did. What I liked the most though was Gene's singing voice which seemed to gain the best shape in this particular movie - he never sounded better. Edward Arnold's villainous character of a gangster is yet another proof of a masterful versatility of roles played by this wonderful actor. Gorgeous Esther Williams and beautiful Betty Garrett portrayed strong female leads who both knew what and who they want from the beginning and that makes all the difference in the world: whereas men are blind, uncertain and shy women go out there and make everything in their power to get what they need.

Love is a many-splendored thing; it can deceit you yet you will not be hurt because in the end you'll learn the true meaning of it. "Take me out to the ball game" is a great musical, a touching love story, a tale of friendship, trust, misconception and growing up all rolled into one sublime piece of art.
