Jean-Luc Godard film
12 June 2022
It's a Jean-Luc Godard film. It's divided into four sections; The Imaginary, Fear, Commerce, and The Music. It follows various characters and some of their connections. Paul Godard (Jacques Dutronc) is a filmmaker. His girlfriend Denise Rimbaud (Nathalie Baye) is leaving him. Cecile is his daughter. He picks up prostitute Isabelle Rivière (Isabelle Huppert).

I'm not that clever. I don't understand everything that Godard is trying to do in this film. I don't know why he keeps stopping and slowing and skipping the picture during the transitions. He's definitely trying to say something about the man-woman relationship. I'm assuming that the same name idea is to show some sort of autobiographical nature to the material. Let's just say that non of these people are happy and most of the women are not treated that well. The titles are Sauve qui peut (la vie) and Every Man for Himself. It's a pessimistic and nihilistic view of the world. I may not get everything being shown but these characters are intriguing. It's all a bit sad especially Huppert's part.
