The Ice Pirates (1984) is a movie I recently watched for the first time in a long time on HBOMAX. The storyline follows a future where the galaxy is scarce of water. A group of space pirates who are caught stealing ice are put back in service to help rescue a kidnapped king. On their adventure they may also kind a solution to the lack of water in the galaxy.

This movie is directed by Stewart Raffill (Mac and Me) and stars Robert Urich (Magnum Force), Mary Crosby (The Legend of Zorro), Anjelica Huston (The Addams Family), Ron Perlman (Hellboy), John Carradine (The Ten Commandments) and Michael D. Roberts (Rain Man).

The special effects while aged are a lot of fun. The costumes and weapons were impressive, the robots were entertaining and the sets were well done for the time. There a lot of random things that happen in here that make you laugh. The cast is well selected and deliver strong performances and the storyline is okay.

Overall this is an average to slightly above average addition to the science fiction genre that's worth a viewing. I would score this a 5.5/10 and recommend seeing it once.
