Mila Kunis and Glenn Close do the best they can with a script that is less than perfect. The problem with the script is a more than ambigous ending. The movie spends a good deal of time showing Close's character as a strong person who, when her daughter comes home, demands she walk to line to sobriety. She does a good job, but at the end, she totally caves in and allows her daughter to take medication that puts her in danger. Flash forward 4 monthes. They have moved from an emergency room where she is on the throws of death to a perfectly well adjusted relationship. It just doesn't ring true and for that, the film fails.
