There are so many bits in this that just don't work the first time yet they keep going along the same setup and eventual letdown. There are good moments but they have been few and far between, the best bits are Alan out in the field doing his stories and it's starkly contrasted with the in-studio behind the scenes parts that are for the most part just awful. Unlike other series where it seamed more polished and thoughtful and better setup from start to finish, this feels way too slopped together. If feels like there are two shows here and one of them should be cancelled.
I've been through the first series and starting on the second and I'm still under the impression this is sub-par for the whole of the Alan Partridge library of content. I'm at a point where I'd rather watch "I'm Allen Partridge" again than finish the second season of this. I think seeing more Susannah Fielding will be all that gets me through at this point. She's a looker and I'm finding I'm spending most of the time just catching glimpses of her rather than paying attention to anything Steve Coogan is doing.
