Last Man Down (2021)

"You're not just a random timber man, are you?"

Warning: Spoilers
This film has to hold the record for the most wood chopped in a single picture. Combine that with the generally wooden acting throughout, and the fact that the main character's name is John Wood, and you've got a 'wood trifecta' that can't be matched. If Ed Wood were still around, he could have had a hand in making it.

I guess you could credit the movie for trying to be topical. The military types gunning for Maria (Olga Kent) all wear virus masks, as if we needed yet another reminder that our daily lives are inundated with mandates to protect ourselves by quarantining and social distancing. Maria had it pretty much right when she said, "The one controlling the vaccine controls the virus, and the one controlling the virus controls life". I thought Dr. Fauci would show up any minute.

This is a Rambo-style flick that hits on most of the cliches for this type of action picture. They even utilize the old saw of the principal opposing characters being brothers, which looked like a stretch to me since Commander Stone (Daniel Nehme) didn't look anything remotely like John Wood (Daniel Stisen). Doesn't matter, the flick ends on somewhat of a whimper with Maria surrendering after Wood kills Stone, and none of the bad guy's commandos even cared. Looks like they were setting up a sequel with the ending, but if that was the case, they shouldn't have called this one "Last Man Down".
