An embarrassment of majestic proportions. So many failures in basic and fundamental storytelling, that I don't even know where to begin.

-Multiple breaks of the 4th wall that interrupt immersed storytelling and basic cohesion -Almost every character is involved in enormous exposition dump monologues. What makes this worse is that many times this happens, its to someone who knows just as much as or even more than them -Severe overreliance on elements from original story, many times for nostalgia instead of taking the time to break new storytelling ground

I'm still in shock. It's like they picked up a book on scriptwriting, and played Bingo with all of the fundamental storytelling mistakes the book said to avoid. I could write a novel on everything this movie did wrong. This film could be studied as a case study on how to focus on everything but what's important. But I'm on an American site, reviewing a Japanese movie, and none of the staff will likely read it. It gets 3 stars for the production value and deeply rare scattered moments of nostalgia-driven satisfaction.

Good movies exist as a result of deep conversations, discussion on what makes sense and doesn't, what should be included and what shouldn't, scenes that are important for characters and scenes that aren't. Ideas win because they are good, not because they come from the top. And I suspect a lack of almost any of that, resulted in the outcome that was this movie.

This is the 100th review for the film. And I'm telling you not to see it.
