Review of Mixtape

Mixtape (II) (2021)
2/10
Just too sloppy n unbelievable
23 December 2021
I love a feel good pic, and I'm there to happily manipulated, that's why I choose this movie! But within the first 20 minutes, there are scene after scene that just push the suspension of disbelief beyond logic. Let's start with that piece of bacon that she's eating as if it's a hoagie for multiple shots. This bacon is magic and doesn't diminish as she gives some to a dog, in the most unrealistic way, if you have ever meet a dog! Meanwhile the family across the street is super busy scraping nonexistent snow and ice from a perfectly fine car (and there is green grass n foliage everywhere). At this point I'm wondering who directed this?! Are you not at all interested in reality or your audiences intelligence? Now we get to the big moment- the mix tape. She finds it, listens but then it breaks?! Irrevocably? Well no. Actually tapes are pretty easy to fix. She could've brought that broken tape into the record guy and most likely he would've been able to splice it right back together for her. I understand that then there wouldn't be a movie, but if the conflict is bogus? Also...all my shots (from the "model minority" stereo typed Asian neighbor). No one was talking that way 20 years ago. Period. And why are they putting a black line through the songs they have found, this is one of the few things she has from her parents, now she's crossing out their handwriting?! I don't buy it. Just bad directing. Had it been written with just a little more care it wouldn't feel so insulting and lame. The music is really really great though!
