Incestuous sex has often be treated ,but this film somewhat renews the subject, pitting it against the outside world (the last picture is revealing , both siblings look like outcasts ,sitting at their table ,munching.pistachio ice cream)in a muffled manner.
Although Tadek always fantasizes about his sister ,she's no longer prepared to accept it :she longs for a "normal' relationship. While he was away ,she has begun a relationship with an apparently nice guy,with a genial smile, but actually a shady person ,a married man and a far right wing activist "who can get us a new stadium ". Tadek's jealousy knows no bounds as he sees his room taken from him by that intruder.
Irmina , a pretty young Rom girl ,is in love with Tadek who ,always smitten with his sibling , won't elope with her ,and anyway it will be soon too late ;Irmina ,too , does not enjoy a rosy life: she wants to be a doctor ,but his macho family ,in spite of their pride of her doing well at school , laughs at her ;twice a victim ,as a woman,and as part of a minority who lives on the fringes of society (several hateful attacks by the far right wing activists are shown).
The films ends with a double failure ;both siblings have come full circle and the it leaves us on an open ending.
