Wagon Master (1950)

A good ensemble Western
23 May 2021
This was said to be one of John Ford's personal favorites of the many westerns he directed. It has no "stars" and is more of an ensemble effort. Some of the scenery and river crossings are visually very striking. A few critics have called it a "film poem."

I liked that the interaction with the Native Americans was essentially peaceable and that gun violence is quite understated. Indeed John Ford made the Mormons pacifists. Of course, I also liked the theme of seeking a "Promised Land" since I've written a history book about Mennonites with that theme.
