Kristen Bell, starring as Gracie, gave a lukewarm performance. Although she expressed with her words what a struggle attending high school while working plus parenting her siblings was, I didn't get any sense of it from her execution. Anne Heche, on the other hand, was so convincing as the indifferent Rowena that I felt unmitigated disgust for her. It was by far her best performance ever.
