Earwig and the Witch (2020 TV Movie)
7/10
Not as bad as they say but I do understand why they didn't like it

Warning: Spoilers
So, I did like this movie in a way that I was happy I saw it once. It's not top-tier Studio Ghibli but it certainly is fun and has charm. The problem is that they shouldn't have labelled this as a "full-length feature" cause the story just ends abruptly without any sort of conclusion. In fact it's almost structured as an episode of a kid's tv-show, which is both bad and good at the same time. And also the poster is kinda misleading? Also the trailer as well! I thought this was gonna be a movie about a girl becoming a witch and starting a rock band- that would've been really cool... and that's what the posters and trailers allude to but alas we get this sort of "prelude movie"? Perhaps SG ran out of budget to make the film longer or there's a sequel that's coming.

I like the animation actually, it's as if the SG style was translated into 3D- it does look a bit strange in some parts but I think it adds a sort of "stop motion" vibe to it, especially with how the characters move and how the surfaces look like.

I don't think it deserves such a low score like 4,7 over here, like come on- it's not awful, it has some thought and the animation isn't bad- it's just different and the story ends in a very abrupt manner. Check this one out if you've seen all SG films or have some time to spare, I think kids are gonna like this one a lot! If not then go and see SGs Kiki's Delivery Service which is a very thoughtful and emotional movie about growing up.
