Jagged Edge (1985)
6/10
It's an ok thriller, but so many clichés, not great editing, little to-no score or soundtrack

Warning: Spoilers
A guy's wife is murdered in a horrific way. Police, DA think he did it for the money. Female lawyer represents him also begins an affair with him, thinks he innocent, then not, then is, then not, etc. And of course the "surprise twist ending." See how many clichés there are here? A lot.

Warning, the opening scene of the murder and the implication of what was done to the victim is extremely disturbing. This scene was actually very compelling and what draws you in to want to continue to watch the movie despite being very gruesome.

The editing was weird. You couldn't tell how much time passed in between scenes. It seemed Teddy had just met Jack, the next thing we know they're hooking up. There are a lot of scenes like this where it's confusing about how much time passed.

There's no score or soundtrack, That definitely could have added to the ambience making it more compelling. But nope, nothing.

Teddy was a flake. I kept thinking in my mind well that's not fair, she's only human after all. But no, she was a flake. Stupid to get involved with a client accused of murder. The whole thing about the past case she prosecuted, and then finding out later the person wasn't guilty(and keeping quiet about it) and hung himself, then making a grandstand telling reporters about it, like she was humble purveyor of justice, kind of ends up deflated given the ending.

I knew who did it from almost the beginning. Not gonna spoil. Let's just say notice when someone dry-eyes-cries. It's not the acting. Everyone here is a good actor. I think is was deliberate, almost as a way to give some of the audience a clue.

I wonder what the fallout would have been. I imagine the media portraying her as a complete and utter idiot, and conspiracy theorist portraying her as complicit given the past case that she mentioned.

Anyway, despite all this, the movie was an ok thriller. Kind of a popcorn flick you can't take seriously. Entertaining when we're all staying home as much as possible during the pandemic and catching up on some old movies I never saw before. Watching late at night as I quiet off to sleep.

I gave it a 6/10.
