Depardieu in a fearless performance as a loathsome sex addicted banker
7 November 2020
An international French banker (Gérard Depardieu) is in the US. He is preparing to declare his candidacy in the future French Presidential race. Meanwhile, while he is away on business he hosts or participates in regular sex parties with escorts. But when he sexually assaults a hotel maid he is arrested as he is about to leave and return back to Paris on a flight putting his candidacy at risk and a very real threat of imprisonment.

Abel Ferrara's very controversial film is quite obviously based off a real case that occurred in 2011 and formed the basis for the film. The comparisons with a case brought against Dominique Strauss-Kahn were so clear that he tried to sue Ferrara.

Many criticised the gratuitous sex scenes in the film (Ferrara had started out as a director of hardcore pornography) and it is undeniable that the film makes for challenging viewing, but this seems necessary. Depardieu pulls off one of his most powerful and fearless performances, while Jacqueline Bisset is also good as his long suffering wife.
