I Am Kalam (2010) : Brief Review -

Shows the Class of filmmaking beyond the capacity of ingredients. A small film is hardly meant to make big impact, of course the equation seems to have changed a bit now but not completely and marginally. Yes but there are some small little diamonds which have more value than big lavish silver plated mainstream films. I Am Kalam is among those small films with big heart and huge impact and not just any regular film among those small films but is among the Top 5 Best Films recently. The film is about a kid from the lower economical class who has dreams to have education and become a well educated respected person but obviously his financial statements aren't on his side. This isn't just about that one kid but it shows us pan India picture of educational failure. I love the way every character has been portrayed in this narrative so accurately with nuances in attires, accent and local cultural reference. Late APJ Abdul Kalam's reference is also tremendously helpful while showcasing different variations of the storyline and on a personal note i have found it damn too inspirational but not like others. There is a scene, the Kid is inspired by Kalam sir and his roommate is inspired by Film Stars, WHAT A POWERFUL SCENE IT WAS! I felt like, "Yes, if you want an inspiration in your life then make it Kalam not Filmstars". Now this is coming from a movie buff and i know some fanclubs might feel it offensive so be it but it's a Fact. Now coming to the storytelling part which is perhaps the Best outcome and the most defining part because it turns ordinary and realistic situations into Artistic Cinematic Experiences. That musical gathering scene was presented just so well as it could get in real life. The climax part too is enchanting as well as emotionally Inspiring i mean those Goosebumps moments. The actors at their finest natural acts are delightful and it comes with natural fumbles, that's amazing. Whether it came naturally or intentionally I don't care much as it looked cute and mainly top class. Director Nila Panda made a terrific and Strong Film out of an ordinary story and took the quality and Class level on next level beating all odds of potential and capacity of ingredients provided to this small budget tiny film. Overall, I Am Kalam is one of the Best Children oriented films of bollywood in this millennium and deserves much more appreciation and admirers than low level high budget mainstream films.
