First episodes gave hope of well written and interesting show with excellent setup. After skipping time episode when we meet adolescent characters everything goes to a snore fest. Story is slow, not developing. All characters are very dull, not likeable. What is ruining the show are main roles of the friends. Actress playing Lenu is so incredibly stiff, emotionless, numb and mute - she barely says anything. Few lines for entire season. She looks like a tired person all the time and she looks like she is not having any fun playing in that show. Her acting drives the show down totally. Her friend Lily is on the contrary - her emotions are overacted, overplayed. Everyone in this show is sad, beaten or totally mean to everyone else. I don't find it any romantic. There is nothing cheerful in the show as everyone acts like he's going to literally kill somebody soon.
Despite well scenography and setting, the story is told in a very hard way. I don't know if book has the same feeling but the show makes you tired.
