This is a disappointing film. Our protagonist is completely amoral. He, along with his girlfriend and his sidekick, commit one crime after another with no evidence whatsoever of a conscience. I kept waiting for him to get his comeuppance, but alas to no avail.
The movie's only redeeming quality is a splendid Busby Berkeley number, with the usual scores of blond-wigged plucked-browed girls in some of the skimpiest costumes ever. This was the industry pushing the limits, just before the clampdown of the Hayes Code. And that's, of course, why crime can pay.
