I like watching certain scenes but others are just really meh.
This movie is definitely competent! But it's such a wasted opportunity. I mean, Burt Gummer's ancestor fighting Graboids in the Wild West? Sign me up! Unfortunately it's not as exciting as you'd think. I like how they start him as a wimp and turn him into a brave guy, but there are so many things they could have done better, including this particular aspect. And man there are some boring scenes and some callbacks to the original film that are pretty lame. And there's a few scenes that are completely devoid of logic.
The practical effects are well-done.
Some of the music is OK.
You do want the characters to succeed, despite the majority of them being underdeveloped.
The acting is pretty good, for the most part, especially from Michael Gross, but he gives a 100% in everything he's in!
