Watch it maybe 3x to understand

Warning: Spoilers
First time I watched this it was 10 years after its release, then over and over again. It wasn't until the 3rd time when I started to focus on the food part of the movie then slowly comprehend the irony in all of Chow's movies. This movie is one of Chow's favorite, along with King of Comedy, it's full of irony and reality expressed in the most humours way possible so viewer won't get overwhelmed by just one tone.

Another comedy yet a tragic story underneath, it's his life.

Instant noodles became popular in China in the early 90s, the competition was harsh and so was the idea of investing fast food restaurants. There were no fast food chains back then. The funniest part was when they were in the meeting room and the invester said it's too risky to use all the money to open up a dozen restaurants, and the skinny guy in the background said "then let's start with 2" and got a book thrown at his face.

Very very good movie with a lot of moral values.
