Judas & Jesus (2009)
8/10
Comedy of Censure

Judas and Jesus is a strange yet lovely short film. The dynamic between Christ and his apostle Judas has been explored many times before, but this certainly was a unique take.

Will it offend? Certainly. The nature of this film is definitely one which could enrage the devout, or excite the nonbeliever. If one views this purely through an entertainment lens, someone with knowledge of scripture and politics (both modern and historical) will note some interesting biblical references and jokes through iconography .

Will it arouse? Probably. This movie has some rather sexual scenes, which explains why it has made its way on some explicit websites. I first learned of this movie through a short excerpt (of an already short film) which was being passed off as some "banned christian education film" in which it appears as normal until there's suddenly some rather risque visuals.

Ultimately, this movie is a pretty interesting film, with some great themes and a beautiful early cartoon style. However this movie does not appeal to most audiences, chances are if you're reading this you've made the journey here to write a scathing review, or would love this movie. Either way, it is well put together, has enjoyable character dynamics, and a pretty good soundtrack. The music provided by the psychobilly band "The Meteors" was an interesting choice which I was instantly in love with, despite not having heard of the band beforehand.

Final Score 76/100
