Review of The Neighbor

The Neighbor (II) (2017)
5/10
Fitchner at his best. Storyline, not so much.
16 August 2019
If you like Rear Window, Lakeview Terrace, Disturbia, The Intruder, and other movies which involve spying on neighbours, then you 'MAY' enjoy this.

The acting by William Fichtner is top class, he plays the pre-occupied mind, infactuating, midlife crises, creepy stalker neighbor to a TEE. He plays this character very well.

He has a crush on the much younger neighbor who plays him along and leads him down the garden path. His wife has lost interest in him sexually and his mind begins to wander across to his neighbor. What turns out to be a crush on his neighbor, ends up as a genuine care for her as he is concerned about the neighbors drunk bad tempered husband, who he holds no disregard towards.

It's not the usual thriller/suspension type movie, more of a drama/intense film. If you like the above mentioned movies, chances are you will enjoy this one, perhaps even as a one off watch. If you do not enjoy the movies mentioned above, chances are you will not enjoy this movie. Five stars for the great acting, storyline not great and slow at times.

The storyline does have a serious dive in it, however. William Fitchners character does have a mid life crisis, and rather than talk it over with him, his wife (who is played by the teenager Tia, in Uncle Buck) throws him out with no questions asked, and he more or less accepts. I don't buy that reasoning.

If you are a Fitchner fan, then watch it for him. 5 / 10 for me, 50/50 chance you'll like it yourself.
