A childhood classic

Warning: Spoilers
I grew up playing this game and I have to say it's aged well (for the most part). It's interesting to note that this was a game changer for video games in general. The story's about Mario being invited to Peach's castle in order to have a cake she made for him. When he arrives he finds out that Bowser's trapped her and her friends in her castle. it's up to Mario to save them. In order to do so he has to collect the stars Bowser scattered across the castle so he can venture into the paintings in each and find more stars. While the story's recycled what makes it interesting is the gameplay. it's a 3D world where you can mostly go wherever you want. You can also do several tricks like somersault and leap.

There's so much variety in the levels you can explore, ranging from grasslands to deserts and caves. After you collect a certain amount of stars you then get to face Bowser who drops a key upon being defeated. The graphics are dated but they're still nice to look at. Some of the renders and sprites look wonky like Mario himself but it's not bad. The songs are very memorable. I find myself humming the credits song from time to time. Super Mario 64 is a classic. It has great replay value and something for everyone and I highly recommend it.
