Revisionist Retelling of the Cinderella Fairytale
3 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Feisty and happy little girl Danielle is thrilled when her widowed father remarries a Baroness (Angelica Huston), and now she has a stepmother and two stepsisters. Unfortunately though her father dies quite suddenly and Danielle soon finds she is little more than a servant to her new family. Years later a now mature Danielle (Drew Barrymore), meets and falls in love with a Prince (Dougray Scott) which is not exactly something her stepmother or stepsisters want to see happen.

The story has been changed through its many retelling's explains an older woman (Jeanne Moreau) to the Brothers Grimm as our introduction. This is true the story has more empowering elements and a theme of equality but it is still essentially the Cinderella story. These changes are fine especially in delivering a message but I still don't see why they needed to add Leonardo DaVinci to this tale.

Despite the revisionism this is still essentially a fairytale, nice and light with some wonderful moments and good performances from Huston and Barrymore.
