I've just watched the two episodes on Amazon and cannot understand the bad reviews others have left. As it goes it is a pretty good low-budget version of the book.
Some of the acting is as vegetative as the Triffids but in general the films hang together well. The ending is a little abrupt and doesn't have the strength of the BBC radio plays thet went into a sequel to Wyndham's original story. Special effects made with lighting, smoke and camera angles, work better than many of the 'spectacular' but hackneyed Hollywood cgi versions.
