I have read some of the disparaging reviews and really do not understand.
Knowing the original and other earlier versions, how can you not be swept off of your feet and want to be an ensemble member? This 2018 version is truly awesome! Why am I crying?
The whole cast killed! Mr. Dixon are you kidding me?! Legend pulled off his roll with soulful dignity. Then how about Norm Lewis? ...Sara Bareilles? ...Jin Ha? ...& Eric friggin' Gronwall?! I had to reload his solo number repeatedly! Again why am I crying?
Maybe I listened to this music too repeatedly as a youngster - even trying to organize my own 4th grade stage show! Maybe being so moved by it then, made it really work for me today. Tears...
And its the sharp & flat notes, miscues, miking problems, etc. that makes me want to give the entire cast a super happy hug!
