A Giant Middle Finger to the Audience
28 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This movie suffers from the unforgivable sin. The characters are too stupid for me to want to care whether they live or die.

When Freddy and Ana are in the gun shop not only do they select a bolt action rifle (slower to reload and shoot) instead of, say a semi-automatic, which any gun shop would carry, but they select only one weapon when each could have carried multiple weapons. In the church, Freddy opens a window and sees the creature sitting motionless in the street. Instead of safely shooting from the window he leaves the safety of the church to confront it (unsuccessfully) in the street.

Yes, you can say that these were only dream versions of the characters and aren't expected to act rationally, but in that case you can say that being dream characters we shouldn't really care about them at all. Also, at that point it isn't definite that everything is just a dream. It goes without saying (but I'll say it anyway) that a finale of "and then she awoke and discovered it had all been a dream" is just a giant middle finger to the audience.
