Review of White Out

White Out (I) (2011)
10/10
Blair Witch like with video logs for the end of the civilization.

While I love dysptopian end of the world dramas, so many are too boring to watch more than first five minutes.

This is NOT that sort of movie. It envisages a time of the climate gone wrong, and the northern hemisphere experiencing perpetual winter.

The hero is an everyman sort of guy, given a job to give ask residents of his small tiown to fill in a short survey on their health, a task he takes up with all the enthusiasm of 24 hour convenience store shelf stacker.

The impending catastrophe builds ever so slowly, the film is set at the delicious moment the world starts to collapse. Adding to this localised viewpoint, you see on-line video logs from narrators around the world describing the gradual decay of civilization, followed by rumors of an illness taking hold. All very reminiscent of the slow build-up from the Blair Witch Project. Now the questionnaire makes sense - only than people assume he knows more than he does, and go after him.
