An unusual fun experience, "Bois ton café" ("Drink your Coffee") is a video clip directed by the creator of "My Night with Maud" and "Pauline at the Beach", and that fact alone should rise the curiosity out of film buffs out there. The great Éric Rohmer takes an alternative route and makes his entrance in the clip world - usually directors from music videos are the ones who turn into feature film commanders. And the result is a lovely tribute to the musical genre yet Rohmer didn't departure himself from his memorable trade-mark revolving around problematic and humored couples.
Rosette sings the title song urging his companion (Pascal Greggory) to drink his morning coffee at the same time he tries to get her out of bed, which she keeps refusing or finding ways to avoid it because it's too comfy where she was sleeping. There's some comedy routine between both (pulling down the curtains being the most amusing) and the song, though not so popular or known to most audiences is catchy and sticks with you like a glue after a while.
This little adventure of a Parisian couple turned out to be a sweet clip that owes nothing to many videos made through the years, in fact Rohmer extracts a lot more with a simple setting than many spectacularly big budget American or British videos that suffocated us in that period. It's a nice combination between song and clip, it feels different than the usual and could actually turn into a great musical provided that such intention was the one idealized by the director, who sadly never made anything from the genre. His sense of humor in seeing funny aspects of daily life in little things is the real appeal of the promotional video to one of his regular actresses.
Not much of a deeply memorable moment for the director but it's worthy of view. 7/10
