The Eyes of the Detective
15 March 2017
Tabito is a detective with a particularity: he only has one sense: sight. But he makes up for it having some kind of superpower: his vision allows him to see words spoken or feelings (kind like the smell of a dog). He gets to know Yoko, a nursing teacher that works at the kindergarten where his daughter attends.

This "Shikaku tantei Higurashi Tabito" is an introduction, an special produced episode, before the TV miniseries of the same name, that has the purpose of introducing the characters, the ideas behind the show and the dynamics between the characters. And selling us the idea of a one-sense detective that sees feelings as colors. And does it cut the mustard? Well, kind of...

As an introduction to the characters and Tabito's 'powers', it is good enough. The atmosphere, the pace and the acting are engaging enough. But the story is bad and empty. Nothing really happens. And the 'sexy' moments fall kind of into the 'sexist' type. With a better story this could be interesting. As it is now, it will mostly enjoyed by fans of the actors.
