The original series of 24 is difficult to surpass as it ushered a new ultra violent convoluted thriller. The one where you always had the feeling it was being made up as the writers went along and all took place in real time.

A day Kiefer Sutherland would never forget. Well Kiefer has departed now listed as a designated survivor.

Instead we have a story inspired by the raid that killed Osama Bin Laden. Corey Hawkins plays US Army Sergeant Eric Carter whose life seems to be in disarray after he returned home from a mission to kill terrorist leader Bin Khalid.

However one of the Rangers took a strongbox and his men are after it. Pursuing these Rangers and their families, torturing and killing them.

Carter springs into action killing the terrorists holding him and his wife at his home and fleeing. Back at CTU Rebecca Ingram is preparing to depart but she is the only person Carter trusts as he suspects there is a mole at CTU.

Carter puts his wife in the hands of his estranged brother (who also happens to be a drugs lord) he once fell out with who seems to have his own militia and goes to look for the one remaining Ranger from his team who might hold clues as to what was stolen in that fateful mission.

Of course 24:Legacy is tense, if things get dull, start shooting at people. Hawkins looks more than capable of stepping into the shoes of Sutherland and CTU again looks leaky as a cauldron.

A promising start despite the undercurrent of Islamophobia in the opening scenes.
