The King and the Chairman Of the Board

The teenage girls of the 50s mourned when they were deprived of Elvis Presley for two years as the Pelvis from Tupelo got that letter from the president that the country needed his services. So Ike had Elvis stationed in Germany and when he got home his popularity hadn't diminished a bit.

It seemed fitting the singing idol of another age would be the one to welcome him back to the entertainment ranks. So Frank Sinatra grabbed a ratings bonanza for his Timex special and also persuaded fellow Clan members Sammy Davis, Jr., Peter Lawford, Joey Bishop, and daughter Nancy to join him.

We got good singing numbers from Frank, Elvis, and Sammy. You can't go wrong with three of the most dynamic entertainers out there.

Personally I loved seeing those special Timex commercials with the watch's best known salesperson John Cameron Swayze. The commercials are done from the Seaquarium in Miami Beach with the sturdy timepiece given a test by a dolphin. Each stunt had Swayze put the microphone to the Timex and that tick reassured the world of truth in advertising.

It's a piece of history.
