I try to be a fan of Stephen Poliakoff's work, I really do. The advertising clips always look enticing and pique my interest and then the Continuity Announcer intones, ".....a new production from Stephen Poliakoff" and my heart sinks.
We'll be treated to long introspective dialogue, expository monologues dressed up as conversation, beautiful photography, patchy performances (this seems to be because of the lack of Direction given to the actors rather than a lack of performance skills), a slight or tortuous, or both, plot unfolding languidly across at least a couple of weeks too many, characters assuming an importance which peters away as if they had to be written out due to a personal emergency midway through filming and then a denouement which is disappointing and frustrating and seems hardly to have been a catalyst for all the preceding drama.
I have only watched the first episode thusfar but will return to this review after the final episode to see if I have seen anything which has caused me to review my opinion.
