slow start but gets poignant
1 November 2016
Paloma is an intelligent 11-year-old girl who secretly vows to kill herself in 165 days. She video-records all the time. Her mother is concerned. Her older sister is annoyed. She makes observations about living in a fishbowl. Her upper-class family lives in a well-appointed Parisian apartment building. She befriends the surly widower book-loving super Mrs. Michel. New resident Mr. Ozu takes an interest in the polite but reclusive Michel.

It's a slow start. Paloma's suicide pledge puts a damper on the comedy. Her friendship with Mrs. Michel grows to be something compelling. This is a poignant film as long as one stays with it through the slower moments.
