Michael Jackson: Black or White (1991 Music Video)
4/10
Decent, but not his best

Warning: Spoilers
The director from Blues Brothers gives us the 11-minute music video to Michael Jackson's "Black or White". It starts with a prologue of almost two minutes including Macaulay Culkin, a huge star at this point one year after Home Alone and his dad portrayed by George Wendt, known to me mostly from his Columbo episode. When the father is catapulted to Africa, the real video begins. The prologue seemed totally random and sadly I struggle to find any artistic value in it.

Afterwards MJ sings the song, shows us some great dance moves and impressive scenery from Africa, Native Americans and the Statue of Liberty. While I thought Culkin returning for the gangster rapper scene was almost cringe-worthy, my favorite part, by far, is the middle part including the transformation sequence with people from all civilizations and cultures. This one is truly beautiful and emphasizes the true meaning behind the song, although skeptics may say Jackson has his very own history of black or white.

I didn't see much necessity for the panther scene or the ensuing taxi sequence. So, as a whole, I felt that the bad unfortunately outweighed the good and would have appreciated it more half the length and without certain parts.
