Post civil war film where black workers go on strike with some very tragic repercussions as a result.

The film has an excellent premise, but once our hero escapes from prison, he comes back-naturally with a vengeance and the film soon becomes how he gets revenge on those who destroyed his family.
Eric Braeden doesn't speak loud enough and as an austere gentleman, he just doesn't seem right for the part.
