Review of Bad Guys

Bad Guys (2008)
5/10
Good cast is lost in a a film that tries too hard to copy Reservoir Dogs
1 October 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Well acted but indifferently written film in the Reservoir Dogs vein about a bunch of crooks that get together and try to see what went wrong with a drug deal that went south. Shifting from the present to the past and back again we see what brought the collection of people to this place and the end of their ropes. Watchable but far from entirely compelling film is big on style; there are lots of fancy shots of legs and lips and blood, but not so much on originality. As I said at the outset the film is trying to copy Quentin Tarantino with its hip and happening dialog but it nowhere near as good. The films collection of characters also seem to be aping the Tarantino grouping with each character having a direct relationship to ones in the earlier film. Only Kate del Castillo as the lone female seems to be cutting a slightly new role. Its not bad, but it does really leave one with a strong feeling of having been there before.
